The success of a child in school is imperative for their future stability as an adult. We must prioritize preventing external factors from obstructing their education to put an end to the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Let's work together as a community to accomplish this goal.
Homelessness is not the only issue many of our children may face. Did you know, homeless children are more likely to face developmental delays, learning disabilities, and emotional difficulties due to the instability they experience? The lack of stable housing often results in frequent school changes, leading to disrupted education and lower academic performance. Can you imagine being a child trying to navigate school with one or more of these challenges and being without a home?
Their needs are unique and just as important as their parents. Education can be a lifeline for homeless children, offering stability, a sense of normalcy, and a pathway out of homelessness. That’s why we put so much focus on providing on-site licensed childcare and after-school programs like Champ Camp. This past school year, 57 K-8th grade students benefited from Champ Camp’s tutoring and enrichment activities.
Champ Camp staff and volunteer tutors work to support these children and keep them on track with their education. The program offers engaging STEM activities and arts and crafts to cultivate a passion for learning. The children staying with us carry a weight no child should have, but we are continually in awe of their hope and resilience.
Will you help children experiencing homelessness recover a solid educational foundation?
